Our Milwaukee Arts and Culture sector welcomed a number of new additions this week.
First, it was so lovely to be at the ribbon cutting last week of The Baumgartner Center for Dance. It was great to see our board member Justin Mortara lead the ceremonies and to hear both Mayor Barrett and County Executive Abele speak so passionately about how the arts are such treasured assets to our community.
I was lucky enough to get a pre-ribbon cutting tour a few weeks ago and it is just an incredible, modern building with great studio and performance spaces, and the costume shop is just this vibrant explosion of colors. When Doors Open comes along later this month, be sure to make the new Milwaukee Ballet home one of your destinations.
Second, we've added capacity, impact, and inspiration to our organization by officially welcoming Lindsay Sheridan and MacArthur Antigua, our newest additions to our team of joyful arts and culture champions working to amplify all of the great work of our city's arts and culture organizations.
Lindsay joins us from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, where she was the Director of Marketing and Strategic Engagement. She will be our Director of Marketing and PR and in this role, she will be leading our Marketing and PR workgroup, which has a goal to reshape the narrative of our sector, and she will also work to advance organizational marketing and PR objectives. We were so impressed with how she thought about growing social impact through the arts that we just knew that she was the right person for the job.
While Lindsay started with us mid-August, last week was her first official week in Milwaukee. She had that small thing of moving to deal with. Please reach out to her to let her know your favorite places to take a drop-in dance class, join a chamber music jam, drink an old fashioned, and hear a band in a hip tiny venue.
MacArthur officially joins our team today as our Senior Director of Collective Impact. Most recently, she was the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and Cross-Sector Partnerships at the Public Allies, a national non-profit committed to building a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it. With us, MacArthur will lead and grow our network's collective impact practice to ensure that our network of organizations - and we as the network's backbone organization - work in a data-driven, urgent, and rigorously collaborative manner so that we can move our ambitious shared agenda forward and generate results.
I am so excited to welcome Lindsay and MacArthur to our team as they will undoubtedly accelerate the work of our network.
Now, we just have to hire a director of artist support and outreach and we will be fully staffed. We have interviews scheduled over the next few weeks and we hope to have the last piece to our staffing puzzle in place by October!
